Map the applications, infrastructure and communications that support a process. Pay attention to the handoffs between systems as well as what each one does.
Design for the people using it
Ask how teams work across offices, operational sites and mobile settings. A foundation should reflect those conditions.
Make visibility part of the plan
Consider monitoring, access and the information teams need to understand their environment. Treat these as part of the design from the beginning.
